The article summarizes the critiques of Horst Bredekamp’s Theory of the Image Act from 2010 expressed in reviews, essays, and monographs and provides a structured overview of the evaluation of the Image Act by experts. Criticism of animism, anthropomorphism, and the auto-reflexivity of images are addressed along with problems of theory formation, pseudo-scientific rhetoric, the avoid-ance of contextualization, and the strategy of building a profile.
